Rehabilitation of Water Systems in the City

Rehabilitation of Water Systems in the City

Rehabilitation of Water Systems in the City

We will continue the efforts of replacing lead or unknown material pipes throughout the city to make our water safer. I suggest looking into the most cost effective, yet safe, methods so our residents do not bare such a high cost. Right now, there are workers in the city dedicated to find the $100 million dollars it will take to make these repairs.

Keep Marion Beautiful! We should continue to examine efforts to keep the city clean and safe. Including road and speed adjustments, cleaning up abandoned properties, and repairs to our Downtown buildings.

An Economy That Works for Marion

Many folks who are newcomers move to Marion because of its affordability. Many residents are concerned about rising energy costs, and water and waste costs. As a city council candidate, I want to see these costs lowered. Our residents should not be burdened with high costs.

An Economy That Works for Marion

Marion is home to many great local businesses. We have unfortunately lost some since Helene. Increased efforts to keep these local businesses open and thriving. Our Growing Entrepreneurs Marion Program is amazing! Building a strong economy will attract more businesses leaders to Marion as a perfect site to their gateway to the mountains.

Keep the Promises MAde

Keep the Promises MAde

Sometimes things are forgotten, whether it be on purpose, or by mistake. The City Councils of the past have unfortunately abandoned projects which need addressing. One of the most urgent is the need for a walking path to reconnect the West Marion Community. There are exciting things unfolding in the West Marion Community which will build a stronger Marion. Let's help them!

Lead With Empathy

An Economy That Works for Marion

Keep the Promises MAde

Marion has seen a rise in unhoused individuals post-Helene.  There are great efforts within the community to help address the needs of those unhoused or in recovery. I believe punishment is not the answer, and that helping someone who is struggling is what benefits us all. Unfortunately, this is a nationwide issue. I suggest our city leaders start making their voices heard on a national level. We are experiencing a housing crisis and substance abuse crisis. But we need to understand and act on the root cause.

EMBRACE HERITAGE AND UNDERSTAND HISTORY

EMBRACE HERITAGE AND UNDERSTAND HISTORY

Marion has a rich history. I often learn something new every day about this city. I believe we can embrace this history in a positive and reflective way. Just recently a study was done through the City on the Morehead Cemetery which had amazing reception. Other similar projects can be done to honor the residents who came before us, to preserve the history of the City, and continue a legacy of progress.

Encourage Engagement from Residents

EMBRACE HERITAGE AND UNDERSTAND HISTORY

EMBRACE HERITAGE AND UNDERSTAND HISTORY

One of the best things about this country is the ability to address our leaders. Currently, the McDowell County School Board and the McDowell County Commissioners meetings are easily accessible online. Marion City Council needs to make efforts to make information better available to the public in the form of live streaming and video documentation of the council meetings. Give residents the ability to learn what decisions the local government makes. Being well informed makes a strong community.
