I am active in the McDowell County America 250 Committee where I help organize events like the One Day Wonder Exhibit being held at the Mountain Gateway Museum on September 17th, and the Speaker Series, which we host every first Thursday of the month. I take pride in being able to participate in such a historical event.

As part of my outreach as the Historian at the Library, I regularly host a History Club where we explore local history topics such as the First Settlers of McDowell, Sarah Gudger's connections to McDowell, and Gold History of McDowell. These meetings are open to the public and held on the third Friday of the month from 3:30-4:30 at the McDowell County Public Library

I regularly attend City Council and School Board meetings to stay connected. I also attend the forum meetings provided by West Marion Inc. These meetings are exceptionally important to the community as well as highly informative. It has given me the opportunity to learn about my neighbors and those who also call Marion home. We are able to voice concerns and empower the community. If you have not been to one please give yourself the chance to go!
